Prince William declines call during Aston Villa celebration
The previous week proved exciting for Prince William as his favorite Aston Villa team won the UEFA Europa League championship. Following the victory, the royal began recording the cheerful environment on the field. Soon, he was interrupted by a phone call, which he rejected. The caller’s name wasn’t visible, and the 43-year-old quickly declined the call to focus on the celebrations. This moment instantly went viral.
Before flying to Turkey, William had sent his good wishes to Villa on his Instagram story. “Come on Villa! Good luck in tonight’s Europa League final. UTV! W,” he wrote.
After the team lifted the trophy after decades, the father of four took to his X to congratulate them. The post read, “Amazing night!! Huge congratulations to all the players, team, staff and everyone connected to the club! 44 years since the last taste of European silverware!”
He continued, “Special shout out to Boubacar Kamara who has been out injured but is such an integral part of our team and helped lay the foundations of this success. UTV!VTID. W.” During the post-match conference, Villa’s defender Matty Cash revealed that William joined the team for a drink after the game. “He was in there having a beer with us. He’s just delighted. He’s such a big supporter,” Cash shared. The player further added, “He’s always coming to the training ground, always at Villa Park. And he deserves moments like these and hopefully he can let his hair down today.”
William has been supporting the Villa for a long time. In his 2015 BBC interview, he revealed how he came to cheer for the team. “A long time ago at school, I got into football big time. I was looking around for clubs,” he explained. He added, “All my friends at school were either Man United fans or Chelsea fans, and I didn’t want to follow the run-of-the-mill teams. I wanted to have a team that was more mid-table that could give me more emotional rollercoaster moments.”
