A Christopher Nolan crime thriller is set to exit HBO Max‘s content library. Accordingly, fans have only a limited time to stream it online. Following its release, it enjoyed critical and commercial success.
Memento will be leaving HBO Max very soon
Memento, Christopher Nolan’s sophomore feature, is reportedly leaving HBO Max on June 1, 2026. As such, subscribers have around six days to stream it before its scheduled departure.
The movie first screened at the Venice Film Festival on September 5, 2000, before premiering theatrically in the United States several months later on March 16, 2001. At the time of its release, it grossed roughly $39.7 million globally.
Moreover, Memento holds incredibly strong scores on review aggregators. On Rotten Tomatoes, it displays a “certified fresh” 93% critical rating and 94% audience score. Meanwhile, Metacritic has assigned it a Metascore of 83 and a user score of 8.8. Both of these indicate “universal acclaim.”
Christopher Nolan wrote the movie in addition to directing, like most of his filmography. It is based on the short story, “Memento Mori,” written by his brother and frequent collaborator, Jonathan. Published in the March 2001 edition of Esquire, its title refers to the Latin phrase of the same name, which means people remembering that they must eventually die.
The narrative centers around Leonard Shelby, a man suffering from anterograde amnesia — a condition that renders the person unable to form new long-term memories. Using photographs, handwritten notes, and his body tattoos, he tries to investigate the person responsible for giving him the condition and for killing his wife.
Notably, the film, alongside the British musical Happy Go Lovely, reportedly served as inspiration for the story of the Tamil film Ghajini and its Hindi remake.
Meanwhile, Guy Pearce stars as the main protagonist, Shelby. The supporting cast includes Carrie-Anne Moss, Joe Pantoliano, Mark Boone Junior, Russ Fega, and Jorja Fox.
