Drake mentioned the K-pop boy band BTS in a new song from his album, Iceman, and netizens are confused about his intentions. On May 15, the rapper sent fans into a frenzy by dropping three albums, Iceman, Habibti, and Maid of Honour, at the same time. The massive release even crashed Spotify as fans scrambled to tune in (via X).
Fans in confusion over Drake’s mention of BTS on Iceman album
Less than two years since his highly publicised feud with Kendrick Lamar, Drake has released three new albums. The albums have a total of 43 songs. They feature guest appearances from Future, 21 Savage, Qendresa, Molly Santana, Central Cee, Popcaan, PartyNextDoor, Loe Shimmy, Iconic Savvy, and Stunna Sandy.
One song that has particularly caught fans’ attention is Make Them Cry from Iceman. In the song, he raps, “I’m feeling like BTS ‘cause it took the whole career for me to be so discovered.” Pop Base, a pop culture updates account on X (formerly Twitter), posted the lyric. While the mention surprised a lot of fans, some found it confusing.
X user @abcdvee asked, “What the f*ck does that even mean? Like what do the lyrics mean? What the f*ck is drake writing??” Another fan, @Livloxy, echoed the same sentiment, writing, “I can’t tell if he’s saying something good or bad about bts.” One BTS fan, @OT7epiphanyy, asked, “Before I get my claws out is this a diss or nah?”
Meanwhile, some other fans concluded that the “Headlines” rapper was praising the boy band. @alertarcade commented, “Speak on it!! They fought their way to the top for YEARS.” User @epipeny also seemed to understand the lyric, as they replied, “exactly, everybody knows BTS’ rags to riches journey and actual, organic success.” Another fan, @DokkiBangtan, wrote, “He’s speaking facts tho. He knows BTS fought tooth nail for the past 13 years to get to where they’re now.”
