The rumor mill surrounding Avengers: Secret Wars continues to spin, and the latest buzz points toward one of the MCU’s heaviest hitters joining in a big way. A new report claims Captain Marvel will be part of the 2027 blockbuster.
Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel could play a major role in Avengers: Secret Wars
Industry scooper My Time to Shine Hello recently posted on X (formerly Twitter), “Captain Marvel will have a big role in Secret Wars.” While Marvel Studios has not officially confirmed her casting, the claim aligns with the character’s established power level and the cosmic scale of the upcoming fight.
Brie Larson first showed up as Carol Danvers in 2019’s Captain Marvel, a film that soared past $1 billion at the worldwide box office. She returned the same year for Avengers: Endgame, played a pivotal part in 2023’s The Marvels, and made memorable cameos in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and Ms. Marvel. Despite that extensive history, Marvel has kept her Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars status tightly under wraps.
When Entertainment Tonight asked Larson about where Carol Danvers will be during the events of Avengers: Doomsday, the actress said, “Oh, you know that I can’t talk about that.” Further, she added, “Nice try.” However, Captain Marvel’s current MCU status leaves intriguing breadcrumbs. Carol was last seen settling into Monica Rambeau’s vacant Earth home after The Marvels, with Iman Vellani’s Kamala Khan’s family helping her.
Meanwhile, Monica’s post-credits scene stranded her in a universe populated by X-Men characters, including Kelsey Grammer’s Beast, who is confirmed for the upcoming Avengers films. That narrative thread could easily pull Carol into the multiverse fight. If Monica serves as the bridge between the X-Men’s reality and Earth-616, Captain Marvel’s involvement becomes almost inevitable.
The Marvels may have underperformed commercially despite positive reviews, but Avengers: Secret Wars offers an ideal platform to reinvigorate Captain Marvel. With the Russo Brothers directing and Stephen McFeely handling the screenplay, the same creative team that maximized the characters’ Endgame moments is back at the helm.
