Ben Stiller Under Fire as MAGA Fans Misread Tweet Post-WHCD Shooting

When a public figure with millions of followers weighs in, interpretation moves faster than context. That speed is exactly what collided with Ben Stiller this week, as a message he shared online was swept into a larger debate. The Zoolander actor has drawn criticism after a tweet posted following the White House Correspondents’ Dinner shooting was misinterpreted by MAGA supporters.

MAGA fans call out Ben Stiller over misinterpreted tweet after WHCD shooting

Ben Stiller has drawn condemnation from MAGA fans who misinterpreted a tweet he posted in the wake of the White House Correspondents’ Dinner shooting.

For those unversed, a suspected gunman disrupted the Correspondents’ Dinner on Saturday, April 25. Cole Tomas Allen allegedly breached a security checkpoint at the Washington Hilton Hotel in D.C.

President Donald Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, and members of his administration were evacuated without injury. One law enforcement officer was shot and sustained non-life-threatening injuries, but no additional injuries were reported. Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche said the suspected shooter appeared to be targeting administration officials.

The Madagascar star sparked controversy with a celebratory tweet on Saturday night. The post followed the New York Knicks’ 114-98 Game 4 win over the Atlanta Hawks, which evened their first-round playoff series.

Stiller posted “Got it done” on X, formerly Twitter, after the Knicks’ win. The actor posted the remark mid-game while live-tweeting the action. However, the timing caused confusion, as some users interpreted it as a reaction to the WHCD shooting.

Congresswoman Nancy Mace replied to Stiller’s post, asking, “Got what done?” However, Mace’s post soon received a clarification Community Note on X. It read, “He was rooting on the Knicks to win their game against the Atlanta Hawks.”

Nevertheless, some users viewed the post as a reference to President Trump, citing Ben Stiller’s vocal criticism of him. Stiller, who is an avid Knicks supporter, has not yet commented directly on the situation. The 60-year-old actor, however, did share a salute emoji on X Sunday morning.
