Marvel is reportedly looking to bring back a major villain introduced in Doctor Strange. Initially the titular protagonist’s ally, they cut ties with him at the end of the movie due to differing perspectives. Consequently, the former went down a dark path, teased in the post-credits scene. However, the sequel, Multiverse of Madness, didn’t pick up from where their story left off. It followed a different villain, Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch, who drove the central conflict.
Baron Mordo’s return after Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness rumored
The Earth-616 or primary version of Baron Mordo will reportedly return to the MCU in the future, according to a new rumor.
During a recent Q&A with fans, Alex Perez of The Cosmic Circus shared that the main Baron Mordo is “definitely involved” in the MCU’s future. However, they were uncertain about Nightmare, another prominent villain of Doctor Strange, appearing in a threequel.
Mordo first appeared in 2016’s Doctor Strange. He initially served as a member of the Masters of the Mystic Arts. He trained Strange in combat while also offering advice on how to use magic. Unwilling to bend the rules of the natural order and rigid in his views, he became disillusioned with the Ancient One and Strange when he discovered their willingness to do so, even if they had good reason. Renouncing his allegiance to the group, he began a mission to rid the world of sorcerers.
An alternate version from Earth-838 appeared in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. A member of the Illuminati alongside Professor X, Mister Fantastic, Black Bolt, Captain Marvel, and Captain Carter, he brought Earth-616’s Strange — who arrived in his universe with America Chavez, while escaping from Scarlet Witch — before his team to pass judgment. He believed 616 Strange was dangerous like their version, who used the Darkhold to stop Thanos and caused a universe-destroying incursion. Mordo later fought Strange while Scarlet Witch killed his teammates, but was defeated.
Marvel Studios has not officially announced when or where fans will see Mordo next. However, Chiwetel Ejiofor, who plays the character, expressed interest in returning. On Happy, Sad, Confused, the actor said the MCU “still holds a lot of excitement for [him].”
“I think there’s a beautiful open door there and just finding the moment to tell those stories where it’s genuinely the most exciting part of that story you can tell and focus a light on,” he added. “I think has the potential to be really remarkable.”
