VisionQuest’s ‘Sentimental’ Father & Son Plot Revealed by Report

Marvel Studios’ upcoming Disney+ series VisionQuest‘s plot will explore an unexpectedly sentimental arc centered on family bonds, as per a report. The series, which completes the WandaVision trilogy later this fall, promises to give more than just technological spectacle.

VisionQuest rumor reveals its AI-human story with ‘sentimental’ plot

During a recent Discord Q&A session, The Cosmic Circus scooper Alex Perez fielded questions about various Marvel Studios projects, including the highly anticipated VisionQuest. When Discord member rapsfan asked about the VisionQuest story, Perez revealed, “A fantastic story of an AI trying to humanize itself. But more than that, it’s a story of fathers and sons, and it’s really sentimental.”

This VisionQuest plot detail aligns with what attendees witnessed in the series’ exclusive New York Comic-Con 2025 trailer. The sneak peek reportedly showed Paul Bettany’s Vision navigating a strange virtual world while interacting with various Stark AI interfaces, including James Spader’s returning Ultron.

The father-son dynamic will apparently drive much of the narrative, with Vision’s connection to his creator, Ultron, being the center of the story. In the NYCC trailer, Ultron said, “You’re a ghost haunting your own footsteps” and “Vision, you have all these tangled strings.” It also featured Ultron teasing Vision about his son Tommy Maximoff, played by Ruaridh Mollica, while the pair watched him on a monitor. “Mazel tov! It’s a boy!” Ultron quips in the trailer (via The Direct).

Showrunner Terry Matalas has also shared that Spader and Bettany form a “core dynamic” throughout the VisionQuest series, promising fans will “get to see robot Ultron” in live-action for the first time in a decade.

The show also features Todd Stashwick as the assassin Paladin, who will pursue Vision and the technology he possesses throughout his journey to reclaim his memories and humanity.

Production on VisionQuest ran from March to July 2025, with the release date yet to be announced.
