Roughly a month after the infamous incident involving former Chelsea FC star Jorginho’s stepdaughter and a security guard allegedly acting on behalf of Chappell Roan, Jorginho has spoken out about the incident. The soccer star said that he received “new information” regarding the issue and now considers the matter “closed.” He also denounced “hate speech” and “online attacks” made on Roan on his behalf by fans.
Jorginho says Chappell Roan incident was ‘misunderstanding’
Catherine Harding and her daughter, Ada Law, whom she shares with veteran Hollywood star Jude Law, were allegedly harassed by a security guard. This was when the young Ada wanted to greet Chappell Roan in Brazil. It was initially believed that the guard was acting on behalf of Roan.
Jorginho, Harding’s husband, called out Roan and the security guard.
Three weeks after this, the soccer star had changed his stance on the whole event. He posted a lengthy Instagram story, where he detailed the new developments and urged his fans not to heckle Roan.
“I would like to give an update on what happened during [Lollapalooza Brazil] weekend, as we have been seeing and hearing a lot over the past few weeks and felt it was important to clarify everything now that new information has come to light,” he began in the story (via PEOPLE). He admitted that he made his previous statement against Roan, “in the heat of the moment.” He asserted that his priority was always his family.
The 34-year-old clarified, “I also want to make clear that the situation did occur as it was originally described.” He added, “Since then, I have become aware of new information that has changed my understanding of parts of what happened.”
Jorginho revealed that it “became clear that she had no knowledge of what took place at breakfast and has not asked anyone to approach them.” Instead, Roan’s team reached out to their family. Roan “was understanding and sympathetic to what had happened to our child.” Moreover, the security guard in question has also confirmed that he was not working on behalf of Roan.
“It was ultimately a misunderstanding,” added Jorginho. “It’s important to me that this is clarified fairly and accurately. I regret the impact this situation has had on Chappell Roan, Catherine, Ada, and our family.”
