Laura Wright, who plays Carly Spencer in General Hospital, took to social media to confirm her role in an upcoming satire comedy movie. Introduced in 2005, Wright’s character is the daughter of John Durant and the late Nurse Bobbie Spencer in GH. The upcoming movie marks her first return to the silver screen since 2015, where she cameoed as Clarinda in Joy.
General Hospital’s Laura Wright to cameo in a new movie
Wright retweeted the news on X (formerly Twitter) about Daytime veteran Vincent Irizarry’s appearance in Soapbox, which is written by and stars David Duchovny. Teasing her being a part of the movie, she wrote, “Someone else may have a cameo in this movie as well,” followed by two tongue-out and hand-raised emojis.
Soapbox centers on Duchovny’s character, an aging soap opera star, who finds himself stuck in today’s culture wars. Apart from Duchovny, the cast also includes Laverne Cox, Irizarry, Randall Park, Jimmi Simpson, and Jennifer Grey. The filming began in March.
In 2015, Laura Wright appeared briefly in the movie Joy. She recalled to Soap Opera Digest that she was approached for the role around Thanksgiving 2014. She was told that the director wanted to meet her and asked if she could share her reel. Wright revealed that she didn’t have one and, a few days later, improvised a fight sequence with David O. Russell. She described it as “the craziest audition ever.” Further, she did some additional improv before learning that she had been cast.
“We were completely sworn to secrecy. And then there we were, working on scenes with Jennifer Lawrence and Robert De Niro and Virginia Madsen, who is a huge daytime fan. She was just amazing to hang out with. Hanging out with Robert De Niro on set didn’t suck, either!” she added. She credited working alongside such a brilliant cast as an “amazing experience.”
