John Oliver is officially joining General Hospital. The host of Last Week Tonight with John Oliver recently landed a guest role on the daytime television soap opera. It comes months after the comedian’s public request for a part.
How John Oliver’s campaign to appear on General Hospital became a reality
Back in March, John Oliver joked on Last Week Tonight, saying he wanted a “juicy” role on General Hospital. The show’s producers eventually made it happen and announced his casting on the June 28 episode.
General Hospital executive producer Frank Valentini praised Oliver’s performance (via PEOPLE). He said, “When John Oliver publicly threw down the gauntlet and said he wanted to appear on a soap, we didn’t hesitate for a second.”
Valentini also praised Oliver’s behind-the-scenes work. “He was everything you’d hope he’d be: prepared, professional, funny, and genuinely kind to everyone on set. He plays an integral character in the story, and I can’t wait for fans to see who he crosses paths with in Port Charles.”
The comedian also shared his thoughts after filming wrapped. “General Hospital was everything I hoped it would be. It’s a true honor to be a small stain on the history of this illustrious show.” He will appear across three upcoming episodes.
Fans won’t have to wait much longer now. Oliver’s General Hospital storyline begins on July 2. He returns on July 3 and July 6. Meanwhile, Port Charles stays busy throughout this week. Emma questions Anna as more secrets come out.
It will see Sonny facing several major twists during the week. Nina makes an alarming discovery that changes everything. Carly receives shocking news before going on the warpath. Molly also continues searching for answers all week.
With Last Week Tonight host John Oliver appearing later this week, General Hospital fans have an exciting week ahead. Plenty of drama is already waiting in Port Charles, and Oliver’s guest role only adds more excitement this week.
