Prime Video has pulled the plug on one of its coming-of-age series after just one season, with the streamer and the show’s creative team addressing the future of its central ensemble.
The Runarounds canceled by Prime Video after Season 1
According to Deadline, Prime Video has canceled The Runarounds after one season, seven months after its September 1 debut. The eight-episode YA music drama was quietly canceled a couple of months ago. Female lead Lilah Pate has since booked a series regular role on Taylor Sheridan’s Paramount+ spinoff Frisco King.
Despite the cancellation, the eponymous rock band at the show’s center will continue. The quintet, comprising William Lipton, Axel Ellis, Jeremy Yun, Zendé Murdock, and Jesse Golliher, is on tour through the end of June. “While the TV series may have come to a close, as a band we’re here to stay,” the group wrote on Instagram.
Jonas Pate, co-creator of Outer Banks, created the series alongside executive producers Josh Pate and Shannon Burke. Amazon MGM Studios, and Skydance Television produced the show, following recent high school graduates forming a rock band in Wilmington, North Carolina. The band also teased their upcoming debut album in the same Instagram post.
The Runarounds was part of Prime Video’s broader YA expansion following The Summer I Turned Pretty’s blockbuster success. That slate also includes Maxton Hall, and We Were Liars, plus the Culpables movie franchise. Like fellow 2025 cancellation Motorheads, The Runarounds failed to break through, never cracking Nielsen’s Top 10.
The show did chart on Luminate’s Top 50 for its first three weeks, logging 1.9M hours watched at No. 32 in its opening weekend. “If the show inspired anyone, at any age, to try and start a garage band with their friends, then the mission was successful,” the band wrote. The series also starred Maximo Salas, Brooklyn Decker, and Hayes MacArthur, among others.
