Starz has officially confirmed the U.S. release date for its latest historical drama, Amadeus, a new adaptation of Peter Shaffer’s acclaimed 1979 play. The series, led by Marvel star Paul Bettany, will bring the dramatic rivalry between Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Antonio Salieri to television audiences this spring.
Amadeus will premiere in May on Starz
The Amadeus release date is locked for May 8, with the series debuting on Starz in the United States. Fresh episodes will drop every Friday on the channel’s app and across its streaming and on-demand platforms. For viewers tuning in via the linear channel, the premiere airs at 8 p.m. ET on May 8, followed by subsequent episodes airing Fridays at 9 p.m. ET (via Variety).

Gabrielle Creevy plays Constanze Weber, with Rory Kinnear appearing as Emperor Joseph and Jonathan Aris as Leopold Mozart. The ensemble cast also includes Orsolya Heletyan, Jessica Alexander, and several others.
Based on the official logline, the story follows a 25-year-old Mozart arriving in 18th-century Vienna, seeking creative freedom. His life soon intertwines with Constanze Weber and court composer Salieri. As Mozart’s genius flourishes despite personal struggles and skepticism from the conservative court, Salieri grows increasingly consumed by jealousy.
Further stating, “Amadeus is a threat to all that he holds dear in life: his talent, his reputation, even his faith in God. Salieri vows to bring him down. What begins as professional rivalry turns into a deeply personal obsession spanning 30 years, culminating in a murder confession and a desperate attempt to entwine himself with Mozart’s legacy forever (via Variety).”
The series is helmed by Julian Farino and Alice Seabright. The series previously premiered on Sky Atlantic in December 2025 and has a 88% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
