Disney’s AI Olaf animatronic malfunctions on debut

Disney’s AI Olaf animatronic malfunctioned on its debut at Disneyland Paris, leaving fans in shock. In the brief video now doing the rounds on X as well, Olaf is seen interacting with guests when it suddenly freezes and falls backward. Its unique carrot-shaped nose falls off as fans gasp in shock and horror. @DiscussingFilm captioned the video, “Olaf just f***ing died.” Unsurprisingly, the video garnered 181K likes, 21K bookmarks and retweets, and 1.3K comments at the time of writing.

Disneyland Paris’ staff members quickly intervened, first fixing Olaf’s nose and then lifting him upright before carrying him away. Fans were heartbroken to see Olaf’s condition and expressed their thoughts in the comments below. One fan commented, “He got overworked y’all give him a break.” A second fan wrote, “I just know those kids are leaving traumatized for the rest of their lives…” A third fan penned, “WE ARE OLAF! WE CARRY THE FROST!”

A fourth fan came up with a relatable joke, “Me at the bar when my social battery wears out.” Finally, one fan remarked, “Just call Elsa and she will rescue him.”

Magic Tour Club later added in the comments: “Just to be clear, we love the magic of Disneyland and all its characters, including Olaf. It was just an unexpected moment that made us smile, nothing but respect for the performers who bring the magic to life every day” (via KTLA 5).

Interestingly, this is not the first time an animatronic figure malfunctioned at a Disney theme park. In 2021, an animatronic figure of former U.S. President Abraham Lincoln malfunctioned during a performance of Disney World’s Hall of Presidents at the Magic Kingdom (via Newsweek).

As per Yahoo Movies, Frozen’s third installment is currently in production. It will reportedly release in cinemas on November 24, 2027. This instalment will follow the adventures of Elsa, Anna, Olaf, and Kristoff. Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel will reprise their roles as Anna and Elsa, respectively, in Frozen 3.
