JD Vance‘s wife, Usha Vance, has offered a rare glimpse into her role as a trusted advisor to her husband and the support she provides behind the scenes. In a recent interview, the second lady shared insights into her relationship with the vice president and how they navigate differences.
Usha Vance gives details on her role in JD Vance’s vice presidency
During her latest interview with NBC News, Usha Vance got candid about her relationship with her husband, JD Vance, amid his vice presidency. The second lady shared how occasional disagreements between them often lead to “open-minded” and “productive” conversations.
“I’m not his staffer. I’m not involved in this in any professional sense. … There’s no expectation that we are going to see eye to eye on everything,” Vance shared. She added, “The expectation is that we are going to be open-minded and have a conversation, and that I’ll provide meaningful input from, you know, the perspective of someone who loves him and wants him to succeed. So even if we don’t agree, it’s — I think it’s always very productive.”
Usha Vance also opened up about her role in husband JD Vance’s vice presidency, describing herself as his trusted advisor in matters of personal importance. “There are conversations all the time,” the second lady said. “I do really like to understand what’s going on in his world, what he’s really focused on, what concerns he has, because it’s a marriage. I mean, I want to be supportive of him, and if I don’t really know what’s going on, then I can’t do that.”
Although the VP has a team of political advisors, Vance noted that her husband always seeks out her advice “when something is troubling him” or “when he really wants to talk through something that feels more, kind of, intensely personal or important personally.”
The interview comes just a couple of months after JD and Usha Vance announced they are expecting their fourth child. Additionally, she recently launched her podcast, Storytime With the Second Lady, on March 30.
