Bad News for Spider-Man & Stranger Things Fans in New Report

Fans hoping to see Stranger Things star Caleb McLaughlin swing into the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Miles Morales received disappointing news this week. A new report seems to have poured cold water on the widespread speculation that the actor was secretly auditioning for the beloved Spider-Man role.

Stranger Things’ Caleb McLaughlin may not play Miles Morales’ Spider-Man

The cast of Stranger Things reunited in Paris over the weekend for the SFM9 (Stranger Fan Meet 9) convention at the Villepinte Exhibition Center. Caleb McLaughlin, Gaten Matarazzo, David Harbour, Natalia Dyer, Nell Fisher, Jamie Campbell Bower, and Noah Schnapp all appeared at the fan event on Sunday, March 29.

During the meet and greet, McLaughlin once again had to kindly turn down a fan’s request to do the iconic Spider-Man hand sign. While he remained gracious about the moment, the interaction gained new weight when known scooper MyTimeToShineHello reported on X (formerly Twitter), “He’s not playing Miles so.”

The Stranger Things star himself has previously addressed the Spider-Man rumors that began circulating after he posted gymnastics and martial arts videos on social media. Many fans interpreted the training footage as a subtle audition for the role of Miles Morales, but McLaughlin set the record straight. “I would love to play Miles, but that was just a hobby that I picked up with some friends of mine,” he shared. “It wasn’t—I wasn’t like practicing for anything. That wasn’t a soft audition. That was just Caleb being Caleb,” he further explained.

However, McLaughlin has made his enthusiasm clear if Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige were to come calling. “If Kevin Feige sees it and calls you… I’m very interested. Very interested. Miles or somebody else? Miles, Miles. Yeah,” he said.

In a separate interview, McLaughlin again added fuel to the fire. “I would love to play Miles,” he quipped (via Variety). “Being from New York… seeing the ‘Spider-Verse’ story, I just feel it’s really, really connected and I feel like a lot of people understand what that means.”

For now, there’s no official confirmation of Caleb McLaughlin playing Spider-Man’s Miles Morales, but it seems the enthusiasm remains.
