SNL UK’s debut includes Ex-Prince Andrew joke

SNL UK’s debut on screen drew significant attention. The very first episode of the show, which draws from its NBC counterpart in the United States, included jokes about major global issues in recent months, including reports surrounding ex-Prince Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and the ongoing conflict involving Iran.

“Coming up on Weekend Update: pedophilia. But first, war!” Ania Magliano said alongside her cohost, Paddy Young (via US Weekly). After some jokes about the conflict involving the United States and Iran, the pair began discussing Prince Andrew. The controversial royal has faced allegations and investigations related to his association with Epstein.

Jeffrey Epstein was a convicted sex offender and trafficker who died by suicide while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges in a Manhattan jail cell. Andrew has previously faced allegations of sharing confidential government information with Epstein while serving as a U.K. trade envoy for a decade.

“Renovations to Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s new home, Marsh Farm, have been taking place over the last month, including installation of Sky TV,” Magliano said. “So, if you’re watching Andrew, hello! You’re not going to like this next bit. Also, I’m older than I look.” She added, “Andrew’s new residence, Marsh Farm, is of course named after the nearby marsh where his body will be found.”

Young added, “It was reported this week that the police investigation into Andrew is set to widen…The big question now is, if Andrew is charged, found guilty, and put in prison, will he be able to keep his mouth shut?”

After another couple of jokes on the topic, the hosts shifted their attention to the ongoing conflict. The comedians also touched on the long-running Beckham family drama.
