Rio Mayor Says Chappell Roan ‘Not Welcome’ After Fan Incident

Chappell Roan has sparked backlash from a Brazilian official after an alleged awkward interaction with a child fan at a hotel. While in town to perform at Lollapalooza Brazil, the singer allegedly directed her security to scold soccer player Jorginho Frello‘s daughter after she spotted Roan having breakfast at the hotel. Following this, Rio de Janeiro Mayor Eduardo Cavaliere issued a statement saying that the singer is no longer wanted in his city.

Chappell Roan in hot water after fan controversy

Chappell Roan is loved by many across the world for her songs and unique fashion sense. The singer was recently at Lollapalooza Brazil for a performance. However, she is now in hot water following a controversy that allegedly involves professional soccer star Jorginho Frello’s daughter and wife.

Following the situation, Rio de Janeiro Mayor Eduardo Cavaliere issued a statement on X saying she was no longer welcome to perform in his city. “I want to say that as long as I’m in charge of our city – this girl @ChappellRoan will never perform at Todo Mundo no Rio!,” he mentioned in the post” (translated version).

The “Pink Pony Club” singer soon denied any wrongdoing by explaining her “half of the story” on social media on Sunday. “I didn’t even see. I didn’t even see a woman and a child. No one came up to me. No one bothered me,” the musician narrated.

Roan then said that she was “just sitting at breakfast in my hotel” and “did not ask the security guard to go up and talk to this mother and child.” She added, “They did not come up to me. They weren’t doing anything.”

Nevertheless, the 28-year-old songwriter apologized to the mother-daughter duo, saying, “I am sorry to the mother and child that someone was assuming something, that you would do something and that if you felt uncomfortable, that makes me really sad. You did not deserve that.”

Roan came under fire after Frello, midfielder for Campeonato Brasileiro Série A club Flamengo, narrated on Instagram stories on Saturday that the singer sent a security guard “who began speaking in an extremely aggressive manner” to his wife and daughter, saying that “she shouldn’t allow my daughter to ‘disrespect’ or ‘harass’ other people,” per PEOPLE
