Empty Home in Nancy Guthrie Case May Be Suspect’s ‘Staging Location’ — Report

Nancy Guthrie’s case remains unresolved after she went missing from her home six weeks ago. According to a recent report, the update on the search hinted at “vacant houses.” Investigators have reportedly been looking into a vacant home, which could seemingly be the suspect’s “home base.” Since February 1, the 84-year-old has not been found. When the FBI released footage of a masked man outside her Tucson home, Guthrie was suspected of being kidnapped.

Ex-SWAT explains why Nancy Guthrie case investigators’ are focusing on vacant home

Recent updates on the Nancy Guthrie case drew attention to vacant homes. Retired Pima County SWAT commander Bob Krygier exclusively told Parade that abandoned houses could serve as a “home base.” Suspects could allegedly use these properties as a “staging location.”

He explained that the kidnappers could reportedly have been in a vacant home nearby Guthrie’s house. They seemingly could have used it to keep an eye on the neighborhood and track their target’s movements. It could allegedly help them to be “a little bit more ‘under the radar’ to see the activity” of the surroundings.

“A location like [a vacant home], out of the prying eye of the neighborhood, could also be a location to set up surveillance equipment if anyone chose [to do so]. It could be easily stashed in a structure or on the property without anyone knowing,” Krygier added.

Therefore, the investigators and police authorities have reportedly been searching all vacant houses in the area. However, the case has been ongoing for six weeks, so the outlet asked the ex-SWAT commander why this particular abandoned property was attracting attention “now.”

In response, he said that it was “just more follow up.” As the authorities have reportedly been receiving leads and tips from time to time, they would follow up. “Believe it or not, new viable leads pop up all the time. Someone in the area could see or hear something and it shakes loose a memory that they just put away as ‘nothing’ at the time,” Krygier mentioned.
