Nicole Kidman’s Hit Prime Video Show Gets S2 Release Date Major Update

The second installment of Prime Video’s latest crime drama starring Nicole Kidman is already in the works. Just days after its premiere, Prime Video has confirmed that production on new episodes is officially underway, giving fans something to look forward to.

Scarpetta Season 2 starts production

On March 17, just days after Scarpetta dropped its Season 1 on Prime Video, Amazon MGM Studios took to social media to announce that Season 2 is already in production. The announcement video featured stars Nicole Kidman, Jamie Lee Curtis, and the rest of the cast sharing their excitement about returning to set. Curtis mirrored the fans’ eventual reaction by saying, “So, L.F.G., and you all know what that means.”

The rapid turnaround isn’t entirely surprising. Amazon showed immense confidence in the Patricia Cornwell adaptation from the start, granting the series a two-season greenlight before the first episode even aired. That early vote of confidence allowed production to gear up seamlessly for Scarpetta Season 2.

With cameras now rolling, viewers are wondering when they can expect new episodes. Given that Scarpetta Season 2 filming is just starting in March 2026, the release date will likely land sometime in mid-to-late 2027. Post-production on a series heavy with forensic detail and period elements typically requires a bit of time, so the wait, while lengthy, should deliver quality storytelling.

The eight-episode first season stars Nicole Kidman as Dr. Kay Scarpetta, a brilliant forensic pathologist who serves as Virginia’s chief medical examiner. She is determined to be the voice of the victims and catch a serial killer. Notably, she does so to make it clear that her career-making case from 28 years prior isn’t also her undoing. The series explores the psychological dynamic of both investigators and perpetrators.

The cast also includes Curtis as her sister Dorothy, Bobby Cannavale, Simon Baker, and Ariana DeBose.
