Alien: Romulus Sequel Could’ve Brought Back Michael Fassbender — Report

A new report regarding Alien: Romulus suggests that director Fede Álvarez wanted to bring Michael Fassbender on board for the sequel. Álvarez was the director of the first installment, but will not return to the role for Alien: Romulus 2. The second part was announced by 20th Century Fox’s President of Production, Steve Asbell, in October 2024.

Recently, a trusted scooper took to social media and claimed that the veteran filmmaker wanted to recruit the X-Men: First Class actor for a role in the Alien: Romulus sequel.

The leaker, @ViewerAnon, shared a post on X (formerly Twitter) suggesting that Fede Álvarez and producer Ridley Scott engaged in a back-and-forth on this topic.

The user wrote, “Curious when we’ll learn the real truth, but I heard Fede and Ridley were butting heads A LOT and that led to Fede’s exit. A friend I trust told me Fede wanted to bring Fassbender back as David, and Ridley shut him down pretty hard.”

Notably, Michael Fassbender played the role of two androids: David in Prometheus and Walter in Alien: Covenant. However, the aforementioned report by the scooper is a rumor, and there has been no statement from Fede Álvarez regarding it.

Meanwhile, the Evil Dead director announced that he won’t be returning to direct Alien: Romulus 2 in September 2025. He told TooFab in an interview, “We just finished the script, actually, for a sequel for ‘Romulus.’ But I’m going to pass the torch on this one as director. I’m going to produce it with Ridley Scott. We’re going to produce it together, and we’re right now trying to find a new filmmaker to come in.”

The sequel to Alien: Romulus is currently in the works, and there is no update regarding its release date window. Recently, a report stated that Michael Sarnoski is a contender to direct it, but even that remains unconfirmed.
