Kevin Spacey Disagrees With Rehab Facility’s ‘Sexually Compulsive’ Diagnosis

Kevin Spacey is challenging claims about a diagnosis he allegedly received while staying at a rehabilitation facility in 2017. The actor addressed the issue while testifying in court as part of an ongoing legal dispute connected to Netflix’s “House of Cards.” During his testimony, Spacey pushed back on records suggesting he suffered from sex addiction. He said he personally disagrees with the label and questioned how the diagnosis was presented.

Kevin Spacey says it was ‘obvious’ rehab facility wanted him to be a ‘sex addict’

While speaking in a Santa Monica courtroom, Kevin Spacey discussed his stay at The Meadows, a rehabilitation center in Arizona, which he entered after allegations of sexual misconduct surfaced in 2017. As per The Hollywood Reporter, medical records referenced in the trial suggested he had been diagnosed with sexual compulsive behavior. However, Spacey said he does not accept that description.

“I only found out later that they had in fact diagnosed me as sexually compulsive,” he testified. “I can’t professionally dispute that, but I can personally dispute it.” Spacey also claimed the facility appeared to want him to publicly accept the label.

According to his testimony, the founder of the rehab center later approached him about becoming a spokesperson for sex addiction awareness. “It was very much obvious they wanted me to be a sex addict,” Spacey told the court.

His testimony came during a larger trial involving Media Rights Capital (MRC), the production company behind “House of Cards.” The case focuses on financial losses tied to the show’s final season after Spacey’s removal. MRC and its insurer are disputing who should be responsible for those costs.

During the hearing, Spacey argued that he was prepared to return to work on the sixth season before the controversy escalated. He claimed he was “ready and willing” to film and suggested his removal from the show was tied to the media reaction surrounding the allegations rather than a medical condition.

However, Michael Genovese, a psychiatric expert who testified for MRC, presented a different view. Genovese claimed Spacey had serious mental health struggles and would have been “unable to fulfill his duties” on set.
