Travis Kelce is reportedly returning to the Kansas City Chiefs for another year. According to an insider, the star tight end is all set to play his 14th season with the team.
Travis Kelce will return to Chiefs, claims report
Speaking with ESPN‘s Adam Schefter on Monday, March 9, a source said that Travis Kelce has signed a one-year deal with the Chiefs that is worth a minimum of $12 million, reaching up to $15 million. Kelce has previously signed a two-year extension with the Chiefs in 2024 which will expire on Wednesday, March 11.
Kelce reportedly made his decision to return before he began his free agency period. According to a tipster, the NFL star informed the Chiefs on Monday morning that he intends to remain on the team with coach Andy Reid.
Additionally, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport also heard from an insider that Kelce had received more lucrative offers from other teams. However, he turned them all down to continue playing with the Chiefs (via Newsweek).
The report comes just two weeks after Chiefs general manager Brett Veach expressed the team’s wish for Kelce to return at the NFL Combine. “Travis is the best. He’s an icon, and hopefully he comes back. We’ll just kind of let that process play out. It’s not your typical 27-year-old [and] first time at free agency. Travis has done everything and has accomplished everything,” he said.
Addressing Kelce’s upcoming nuptials with Taylor Swift, Veach added, “He’s about to get married. He’s got a lot going on, so I don’t think there’s an element of us not trying to get something done — you need to have some sort of deadline [or] timeline — but at the same time he’s Travis Kelce.”
Most recently, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes made an Instagram post, marking Kelce’s return to the NFL. He shared two photos of the duo rocking the Chiefs reds on the field, adding the caption, “⏰?.”
