Bruce Willis & Ben Affleck’s Blockbuster Disaster Movie Is a Free Streaming Hit

A classic disaster blockbuster starring Bruce Willis is finding new life online decades after its theatrical run. The big-budget sci-fi hit has surged back into popularity after landing on a free streaming service.

Armageddon tops Tubi streaming charts after debut

The 1998 disaster film Armageddon recently climbed to the No. 1 spot on Tubi’s U.S. streaming chart (via Flix Patrol). According to the platform’s rankings for March 8, 2026, the movie became the most-watched title on the free service shortly after being added to the catalog. The renewed interest shows that the film still draws large audiences nearly three decades after its original release.

Directed by Michael Bay, the movie first hit theaters in July 1998. The story follows a team of oil drillers recruited by NASA to stop a massive asteroid from colliding and obliterating the Earth. Bruce Willis leads the cast as Harry Stamper, a rough but skilled driller tasked with saving the planet. The film also features actors such as Ben Affleck, Liv Tyler, Billy Bob Thornton, and Steve Buscemi.

Made on a reported budget of about $140 million, Armageddon became one of the biggest box-office hits of its time. The movie earned roughly $553 million worldwide (via Box Office Mojo) and became a major success for Walt Disney Studios through its Touchstone Pictures label. The film’s mix of large-scale action, emotional moments, and explosive visual effects helped it stand out during the late-1990s wave of disaster movies.

Audience reactions have remained strong over the years. On IMDb, the film holds a rating of around 6.7 out of 10 based on hundreds of thousands of viewer scores. Meanwhile, audiences on Rotten Tomatoes have given it a much stronger approval rating of about 73%.

The film’s return to the top of Tubi’s charts proves how older blockbusters can still find new audiences through free streaming platforms. With its recognizable cast, emotional story, and large-scale action, Armageddon continues to attract viewers long after its original theatrical run.
