Timothée Chalamet recently shared a cherished chapter of his childhood, confessing his wholehearted devotion to the iconic trading card game, “Yu-Gi-Oh!”

For his W Magazine portfolio, Timothée Chalamet fully embodied Shend, a character he co-created with “Marty Supreme” director Josh Safdie. Shend is a complex, lovable 30-something dreamer who lives with his mom, sells custom controllers on the side, and rocks “Yu-Gi-Oh!” tournaments. Despite his day job as a doorman, Shend’s convinced he’s on the cusp of making it big.

However, turns out that Timothée Chalamet’s passion for “Yu-Gi-Oh!” isn’t just limited to his character; he is a genuine fan of the game. He even took his skills to the streets, battling it out with other enthusiasts at shops in New York City.

Back in 2021, he surprised fans with ModdedController360, a YouTube channel showcasing his custom Xbox controllers. That passion actually fed into his character, Shend, for his W Magazine interview, where he went all in on the role.

Timothée Chalamet shared with W Magazine that he was totally into “Yu-Gi-Oh!” cards when he was younger, recalling how he’d play at Midtown Comics around age 12 or 13. The Call Me by Your Name actor expressed that he loved how the game brought together people from different backgrounds.

His revelation sparked a buzz on social media, with fans saying they probably had bumped into him at the same card shop back in the day. Netizens loved the glimpse into Chalamet’s Yu-Gi-Oh passion, with one calling him a “Man of culture,” under W’s X (formerly Twitter post). Meanwhile, another wrote, “ofc he plays yu gi oh.” “My respect for this man sky rocketed,” echoed a Twitter user.

It’s clear that Timothée Chalamet’s passion for “Yu-Gi-Oh!” has resonated with fans and brought back a flood of memories.
