A new Avengers: Doomsday rumor has surfaced, revealing some major details about Doctor Doom’s right-hand man. The upcoming superhero film premieres in theaters later this year. It will be the first part of a two-film series, the other being Avengers: Secret Wars, that will wrap up the Multiverse Saga.
Anthony and Joe Russo directed and co-produced the sci-fi/action movie through AGBO, while Michael Waldron and Stephen McFeely wrote the screenplay.
Doctor Doom’s right-hand man in Avengers: Doomsday rumored to be a wizard
According to a new report, Doctor Doom’s right-hand man in Avengers: Doomsday will be a “wizard.” This report comes from Daniel Richtman, who shared it on his Patreon. The scooper also said that the character will use a sling ring. Notably, Richtman didn’t name this character.
However, this is an unverified rumor as of writing. Accordingly, fans must wait until the film comes out to find out if these details, let alone Doom having a right-hand man, are true.
While the rumor is unconfirmed, the keywords “wizard” and “sling ring” point to a variant of Doctor Strange likely fulfilling the role of Doctor Doom’s closest ally. This is due to the fact that a sling ring is one of Strange’s signature tools —helping him traverse across different locations.
Last month, Benedict Cumberbatch, who plays Strange, was mentioned in a cast list of actors for pre-reshoots for the film shared by fellow scooper, MyTimetoShineHello. In it, the English actor was listed as “Doom’s wizard sidekick.”
Cumberbatch hasn’t been officially confirmed for Avengers: Doomsday; his name was absent from the initial cast reveal livestream. The actor has also provided conflicting statements about whether he would reprise his role in the film.
Benedict Cumberbatch first denied Strange’s involvement in Doomsday’s overarching story in a Variety interview. The actor stressed that it boiled down to “the character not aligning with this part of the story.” However, he revealed in the same interview that Strange would have a major role in Avengers: Secret Wars.
The Sherlock star later backtracked on his comments in a Business Insider interview, jokingly stating, “Don’t ever believe anything I say.”
Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to hit theaters on December 18, 2026.
