Daniel Radcliffe shuts down rumors about taking over Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine

Daniel Radcliffe recently dismissed rumors about him taking over Hugh Jackman’s iconic role as Marvel’s Wolverine. The “Harry Potter” star is currently promoting his new sports comedy series, “The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins.” In an exclusive chat with ComicBook.com, Radcliffe discussed the Wolverine fan casting.

When asked about whether he has considered taking up the role, Radcliffe quickly played down the Wolverine casting chatter, stating that it was “never real.” However, he added that it was a “very flattering internet rumor.”

Furthermore, he added, “But if they do other Wolverines, being the person who follows Hugh Jackman is not on my bucket list for anything.” Radcliffe clarified once again that he has no intention of playing the iconic X-Men character. Moreover, he concluded by stating, “For any role of his, particularly the role he has made the most iconic of his career, I am happy not to be doing that and let him keep doing it.”

Fans were quick to react to Radcliffe’s statement online. One fan observed on X (formerly Twitter), “Radcliffe knows that no matter how good he is, the headlines would always be ‘Is he as good as Hugh?’ Some legacies are better left untouched, and Dan is choosing his peace over the comparison trap.”

A second fan wrote, “Honestly? Respect the honesty. Following Hugh Jackman as Wolverine is a pressure-cooker role. Daniel Radcliffe choosing peace instead of internet chaos might be the smartest move here.”

When asked in the same interview if he would ever join the MCU or the DCU, Radcliffe confessed he is “so out of the loop” and has “catching up to do if I ever end up on one of them.”

However, Radcliffe added, “But yes, I am certainly not averse to it. I would never rule anything like that out. But also, I am not necessarily clamoring to be in it or seeking that.”
