According to a recent report by Page Six, Johnny Depp offered Eric Dane to reside in one of his Los Angeles homes before his death. Insider sources have claimed that Depp asked the late Grey’s Anatomy actor not to be concerned about the financial burden.

“Eric [had] one less thing to worry about,” a source said, adding that the late actor was “living basically rent-free in one of the homes Johnny owns above the Sunset Strip. He told Eric to pay whatever he could — or couldn’t — for rent.”

According to the insider, Depp and Dane had met via mutual friends several years ago. Shortly after Dane announced his ALS diagnosis, Depp stepped up to help him through the ordeal. “Johnny wanted to do what he could to ease the financial burden,” the source stated.

Eric Dane passed away on February 19, 2026, at the age of 53, after a long battle with ALS. His family confirmed his death in a public statement last Thursday. “With heavy hearts, we share that Eric Dane passed on Thursday afternoon following a courageous battle with ALS,” it said. “He spent his final days surrounded by dear friends, his devoted wife, and his two beautiful daughters, Billie and Georgia, who were the center of his world.”

The statement continued, “Throughout his journey with ALS, Eric became a passionate advocate for awareness and research, determined to make a difference for others facing the same fight. He will be deeply missed, and lovingly remembered always. Eric adored his fans and is forever grateful for the outpouring of love and support he’s received. The family has asked for privacy as they navigate this impossible time.”

Shortly after his death, Dane’s closest friends launched a GoFundMe to secure financial aid for his mourning family, wife Rebecca Gayheart, and their two young daughters.
