Wagner Moura’s Oscar-Favorite Thriller Sets Hulu Streaming Date

The Oscar-nominated political thriller The Secret Agent is set to make its streaming debut on Hulu. Following major awards recognition, the film will soon be available to stream, expanding its reach beyond theaters.

The Secret Agent begins streaming on Hulu in March

The Secret Agent will be available for streaming on Hulu beginning March 1, 2026, the platform has confirmed. The release brings the internationally acclaimed political drama to streaming audiences after a prominent festival debut and a strong awards season. 

The film is written and directed by Kleber Mendonça Filho and premiered at the Cannes Film Festival on May 18, 2025. It went on to become the most awarded title at the festival, winning Best Director and Best Actor. Set in Brazil in 1977 during the military dictatorship, the film follows Marcelo, a technology expert forced to flee a dangerous past.

He returns to his hometown of Recife, hoping to reunite with his son and find safety, but soon discovers the city is far from the refuge he expected. As political tensions rise and unknown figures begin tracking him, Marcelo becomes entangled in the country’s underground resistance while searching for a way to escape.

The film’s cast includes Wagner Moura as Armando Solimões, Carlos Francisco as Sr. Alexandre, Tânia Maria as Dona Sebastiana, Robério Diógenes as Euclides, Gabriel Leone as Bobbi Borba, and Roney Villela as Augusto Borba, among others.

Critically, the film has received widespread praise. It holds a 98 percent approval rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes based on 174 reviews, along with an 83 percent audience score. Beyond its Cannes recognition, the film also won awards from the New York Film Critics Circle, the Los Angeles Film Critics Association, and the Critics’ Choice Awards. It has also earned four nominations at the 98th Academy Awards, including Best Actor and Best Picture.
