Chuck Lorre, the co-creator of The Big Bang Theory and its spin-offs, recently gave major updates on the latest entry in the franchise and why it is a “big swing.” Announcements for Stuart Fails to Save the Universe, the third official Big Bang Theory spin-off after Young Sheldon and Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, came in April 2023. It will release on HBO Max, whereas the previous three debuted on CBS.
Chuck Lorre talks about Stuart Fails to Save the Universe
Chuck Lorre revealed during a new interview with People that Stuart Fails to Save the Universe has completed principal photography. He also admitted that there is a risk in taking on such a project. He called the upcoming show a “science fiction action-adventure comedy,” adding, “We just finished principal photography, and I’m pretty excited about it. It’s a big swing.”
The Two and a Half Men co-creator proceeded to add, “I think it will be revered or reviled. I’m not sure which.”
Lorre, often referred to as the “King of Sitcoms,” has worked on iconic situational comedies such as Grace Under Fire, Cybill, Dharma & Greg, Mom, Mike & Molly, Leanne, and many others besides those mentioned above. Stuart Fails to Save the Universe revolves around Stuart Bloom (Kevin Sussman), Denise (Lauren Lapkus), Bert Kibbler (Brian Posehn), and Barry Kripke (John Ross Bowie), supporting characters from the original series.
According to the series’ official logline, comic book store owner Stuart Bloom must restore reality and stop multiversal armageddon after breaking a device that Sheldon and Leonard built. With his girlfriend Denise, geologist friend Bert, and quantum physicist Barry Kripke, Stuart sets out on an incredible journey during which he comes across alternate versions of fan-favorite characters.
In the above-mentioned interview, Lorre explained his reason for making Stuart Fails to Save the Universe. “I just wanted to do something that challenged me, that I was uncomfortable and in unfamiliar territory, and the special effects stuff, the computer graphics, all those things,” he said.
Stuart Fails to Save the Universe is scheduled to arrive on HBO Max sometime this year.
