Donald Trump Threatens Nancy Guthrie’s Kidnappers, Demands Safe Return

Donald Trump has issued a blunt threat to the potential kidnappers of Nancy Guthrie, the mother of Today host Savannah Guthrie. The 84-year-old was reportedly kidnapped from her home outside Tucson on February 1. Now, in a brief phone interview with the New York Post on Monday, the President warned that those responsible must release Guthrie alive. Trump also suggested the harshest federal punishment if they find her dead.

Donald Trump addressed Nancy Guthrie’s suspected kidnappers, issuing a threat if they did not comply. The report noted that Trump warned the kidnappers they would suffer “very, very severe — the most severe” federal consequences in case investigators did not find Guthrie alive.

When the outlet asked if that meant the Justice Department would seek the death penalty, the President responded, “The most, yeah — that’s true.”

Moreover, The Post reported that Trump called Savannah Guthrie on February 4 to offer federal support while authorities and investigators have continued searching for Nancy Guthrie, reporting that investigators believe she might still be alive.

Per the outlet, there has been progress in the sense that the FBI recovered images and video connected to the case. This included footage of a masked man at the front door of the home. Meanwhile, the search has moved beyond the neighborhood, with The Post reporting that over the weekend, authorities flew a high-tech Bluetooth device over the desert region in an effort to detect a signal from Guthrie‘s pacemaker.

Furthermore, the report noted that federal charges often come into play in major cases, pointing out that Arizona has the death penalty. Besides, the federal government can also seek capital punishment in certain cases.

Donald Trump’s message, as described by the New York Post, comes as a threat to Nancy Guthrie’s kidnappers, warning them that she must come home safely — and those responsible should face the “most severe” outcome if she does not.
