James Van Der Beek’s Old SNL Monologue Is Resurfacing After His Death

James Van Der Beek’s SNL monologue is gaining attention on the internet following his death on February 11, 2026. Van Der Beek passed away after a long battle with colorectal cancer. In November 2024, the actor, known for his portrayal of Dawson Leery in the drama Dawson’s Creek, revealed that he was dealing with the illness.

Late actor James Van Der Beek’s monologue from his SNL appearance in 1999 is going viral after the news of his death.

In the clip posted on Saturday Night Live’s official YouTube channel, Van Der Beek is welcomed with cheers as she takes on the SNL stage. In response to the cheers, the actor said, “Wow, this is absolutely incredible to be hosting Saturday Night Live. Most of you probably know me from the show Dawson’s Creek.”

He is then interrupted by the announcer, Don Pardo, who was voiced by Darrell Hammond, who conveyed, “I love you, Dawson. You’re a beautiful young man, and I’m very proud of you.” Later in the clip, fans can see Van Der Beek unboxing a pair of white underwear, which was presented to him as a gift from Don Pardo. Moreover, commenting on it, Pardo stated, “You’re very, very special to me, Dawson. So clean and untainted. I’ve seen many teen idols come through this show. But you have that something extra that makes me feel, I don’t know, hot!”

However, Van Der Beek labeled it creepy. Many fans have chimed in on the comments section to pay tribute to the late actor after the monologue resurfaced.

Van Der Beek’s death was announced on his Instagram account with the statement, “Our beloved James David Van Der Beek passed peacefully this morning. He met his final days with courage, faith, and grace. There is much to share regarding his wishes, love for humanity, and the sacredness of time. Those days will come. For now, we ask for peaceful privacy as we grieve our loving husband, father, son, brother, and friend.”
