The ending of Industry Season 4 Episode 6 seems to have brought Eric Tao’s time in the show to a close, and actor Ken Leung has now come out to confirm what everyone had been fearing. In a recent interview, he opened up about Eric unceremoniously leaving proceedings and revealed that the latest Industry episode was indeed his final one on the HBO show.
Ken Leung breaks down Eric’s ‘last scene’ in HBO’s Industry
The Rush Hour star revealed that Eric was the most emotional he has ever been on Industry in Season 4 Episode 6, as it was his final scene with Myha’la Herrold, who plays his on-screen protégé, Harper.
“As far as I know, it’s our last scene. So there was that in it. And even though we’re friends and remain friends, and hopefully we’ll be friends forever, to have what we created the past six years come to an endpoint, it’s very poignant. It’s not just sad. There’s celebration in it. It’s everything. It’s beautiful,” Ken Leung noted to TV Insider as he confirmed that Eric will be leaving Industry for good.
In Industry Season 4 Episode 6, Eric discovers that the young woman he had been seeing has actually been planted by Whitney and the company Tender. Moreover, he learns that Dolly (Skye Degruttola) is of a much younger age, which makes him vulnerable to criminal charges. Feeling cornered from every side, Eric decides to hand over his stake in SternTao to Harper before leaving their fund and the Industry series.
During the aforementioned conversation, Myha’la Herrold also corroborated Leung’s claims. She added, “It’s the last scene that we have in the show between us. Because then I was there on your actual last day, but we weren’t working.”
Ken Leung further addressed whether Eric will ever interact with Harper. He noted, “I feel, since Eric’s walking away, that it’s not my province to dictate what he wants. And in that respect, we share in the interpretation. Your take is just as good as mine, just as valid. The audience participates in where he’s going. The way it’s shot, the way it’s presented is telling us that, I think.”
Also commenting on Eric’s end-credits scene, Leung shared, “I got to walk as Eric, I got to walk as Ken. I got to walk thinking about people I love, this show, things that had nothing to do with the show, what I was going to have for dinner that night. It was a living walk. It was beautiful.”
