General Hospital’s Drew Actor Cameron Mathison Gives Cancer Update

General Hospital’s Cameron Mathison, known for his role as Drew Cain, took to social media to share an update on his cancer following his latest checkup. Back in 2019, the actor was diagnosed with renal cell carcinoma, a type of kidney cancer, after doctors discovered a tumor in his right kidney when he checked for recurring gastrointestinal issues. Mathison took to Instagram to share a video to give a positive update to fans about his cancer diagnosis and overall health. His clip begins with him acknowledging that he received many questions about his present condition, and hence, he made the video.

The actor said, “About my cancer scans, the six-year cancer scans. Yes, I just got out of bed, but what the heck. I just wanted to let everybody know that I’m very, very, very, very grateful that they all came back clear.”

He revealed that his kidney function is now “even better,” and that it has improved since last year. Declaring himself cancer-free, he added, “I am six years cancer-free, and I could not be more grateful.”

The update comes a few days after Mathison’s “six-year cancer check-up day.” He shared a picture on Instagram from the hospital and wrote in the caption, “Blood work, CT scan, X-rays. Grateful to be here. I’ll keep you posted.” After receiving numerous questions about his checkup results, he reassured fans in the latest video that all is well, with many commenting to express their relief over his health condition.

Earlier, Mathison had shared what it was like to learn about the shocking news of cancer via the Patient Resource website. “In my heart, I’d known something was wrong, but actually hearing the diagnosis was bizarre. It felt like a dream that seemed so real, but one I wanted to wake up from,” he said.
