Donald Trump has warmly addressed podcaster Joe Rogan. The US President called him a “great guy” after the two spoke privately, even as Rogan recently criticised Immigration and Customs Enforcement tactics.
Donald Trump talks about Joe Rogan
During his interview with NBC News, Donald Trump was asked about Joe Rogan, a major 2024 endorser who recently made controversial comparisons between ICE agents and the Nazi Gestapo. Trump chose to focus on their personal rapport rather than the critique.
“Well — look, first of all, he’s a great guy who had a tremendous success before the election,” Trump stated, referencing Rogan’s highly-viewed interview. He revealed the two spoke just three days prior, sharing that they had a “great conversation.”
When pressed on whether they specifically discussed the ICE remarks, Trump acknowledged they talked “a little bit” about the criticisms. However, he emphasized his positive view of Rogan. Trump said, “I think he’s a great guy, and I think he likes me, too.”
Trump then pivoted to a broader point about his administration’s public perception. “And, you know, liking me isn’t important. What happens is that — I think we do a phenomenal job, but I don’t think we’re good at public relations,” he said. This sentiment extended to his praise for Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, whom he argued is “not getting credit for the job that she does.”
The discussion about Joe Rogan was part of a wider immigration conversation. Trump outlined plans to expand his immigration enforcement operations into five additional cities, but only if local officials invite him. He also reflected on recent operations, suggesting a need for adjustment.
“I learned that maybe we can use a little bit of a softer touch, but you still have to be tough,” Trump said, referencing recent major incidents. He insisted his focus remains on “really bad criminals,” while defending his overall border strategy.
