Sydney Sweeney has given fans a clearer picture of her long-term romance with her ex-fiancé Jonathan Davino, explaining why she chose privacy over publicity. “I was in a relationship for a very long time, for seven and a half years, and I never talked about it. I was very private,” Sweeney told Cosmopolitan. She added, “No one would ever see us. I think it’s important to have some things for myself.”
The relationship timeline between Sweeney and Davino dates back several years, with the couple getting engaged in March 2022. Despite the engagement, the couple eventually called it off and officially parted ways in March 2025.
At the time of the breakup, sources told US Weekly that Sweeney and her ex-fiancé were dealing with “major issues” that ultimately led to the split. The pressure of balancing a demanding career also played a role. According to reports, Sweeney was “extremely busy” with work and “couldn’t handle the stress” of planning a wedding alongside her packed schedule.
Sweeney confirmed by May that she was enjoying being single while speaking to The Sunday Times. “I’m learning a lot about myself, spending more time with my friends. And I’m loving it,” she said, making it clear she was comfortable with where she stood.
Now, Sweeney shared what she looks for in a partner today. Wanting someone “athletic and outgoing and funny,” she added that her lifestyle requires a partner who can keep up with her adventurous side. “Look, I am a boss in my life. I take control…go after what I want. I am confident, and I am successful, and I don’t actually need a man,” she explained.
Following her breakup with her ex-fiancé, Sydney Sweeney has been linked to Scooter Braun. The two were first spotted together in Italy last August.
