In the wake of the release of Shrinking Season 3, two stars from the comedy-drama series have come out to share their views on what might happen if their world were to collide with that of fellow Apple TV+ show, Ted Lasso. Lukita Maxwell and Michael Urie, who play Brian and Alice Laird, respectively, in the Jason Segel-led series, talked about crossover possibilities between the two shows. They also named the characters they think would make the smoothest transition.
Lukita Maxwell and Michael Urie think Shrinking’s Alice could cross over to Ted Lasso
The Ugly Betty alum noted that it is Alice from Shrinking who would fit in best in the world of Ted Lasso if a crossover between the shows ever took place.
“I think Lukita Maxwell’s character certainly could play football — that’s kind of the easiest one. Alice goes and plays for AFC [Richmond] or whatever,” Michael Urie said while speaking with Comic Book Resources‘ Grae Drake. ‘I’ve thought about this before because obviously we have some of the same creators and the same streaming service.”
Talking about his Shrinking character Brian’s hypothetical move to Ted Lasso, Urie remarked, “And I think I always think of myself like if I ended up working with or for Hannah Waddingham’s character, then sparks would fly. I think that would be something really, really special.”
Notably, Lukita Maxwell portrays Jimmy Laird’s (Jason Segel) daughter, Alice, who plays soccer at the high-school level. In Shrinking Season 3, she is seen preparing for college life in Connecticut. There, she plans to pursue soccer at a competitive level.
In a separate interview with the outlet, Maxwell echoed her Shrinking co-star’s sentiments. She stated that it will be Alice who would make the switch to Ted Lasso in the event of a possible crossover. “If somebody from Shrinking was to go over to Ted Lasso? Alice. She plays soccer,” the 24-year-old actress noted before adding, “Get her kicking on a field there.”
Upon hearing the interviewer’s suggestion that Alice might follow a path similar to Ted Lasso’s Jamie Tartt (Phil Dunster), Maxwell replied, “I’m down for anything. I love London. London is one of my favorite cities in the world.”
Shrinking is currently airing its third edition. Meanwhile, Ted Lasso will kick off a new storyline with its upcoming Season 4, which will premiere sometime in summer 2026.
