Welsh singer Katherine Jenkins, who described meeting Tom Cruise as one of her best celebrity encounters, revealed that she believed Cruise mistook her for royalty after a concert. Jenkins is a best-selling classical artist, who is seen in royal ceremonies very often, which could have led to this possible case of misidentity.

Katherine Jenkins, the Welsh singer known for her operatic arias, popular songs, musical theatre, and hymns, recounted a rather funny incident involving Mission Impossible star Tom Cruise. Jenkins recalled a particular incident where she believes Cruise mistook her for royalty.
This incident took place at the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Concert in 2022, where Jenkins performed. Speaking with The Independent, she recalled the backstage encounter she had with the legendary actor (via BBC).
“Tom was walking off, being escorted on either side by military personnel,” she recalled. She further explained the confusion, “Because I do so much with the military, they knew me,” and added, “They both bowed their heads and said ‘good evening ma’am’ at which point, because there wasn’t space, one of them pushed Tom out of my way and almost body-slammed him against the wall.”
This perhaps led to confusion in Cruise’s head. She recalled that the next time they met face-to-face, Cruise greeted her with “a very strange handshake/nod/bow thing.” This gave Katherine Jenkins the idea that Cruise may have mistaken her identity.
A reason for this could be Jenkins’ frequent appearances with the Royal Family. She has been a regular at events hosted by the Royal Family. She has even performed at concerts for the British Armed Forces in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Anyhow, this has not been confirmed by Cruise. But Jenkins believes meeting Tom Cruise was one of her most exciting celebrity contacts.
