We Already Saw Avengers: Doomsday’s Doctor Doom in Age of Ultron – Theory

A surprising Doomsday theory has sparked debate ahead of Avengers: Doomsday, with fans revisiting one of the MCU’s most overlooked details. The theory claims Doctor Doom may have secretly debuted in Avengers: Age of Ultron, long before his official introduction.

New Avengers: Doomsday theory retcons MCU Phase 2 entirely

A Reddit theory claims that Doctor Doom appeared in the MCU as early as Avengers: Age of Ultron, introducing a major retcon. In one scene, Scarlet Witch shows Thor a vision. Thor stands inside a large hall that many now identify as the Castle of Von Doom. A green hooded figure appears beside Heimdall in the background.

In another vision, Tony Stark sees his team lying dead on a distant rock in space. A different version of Iron Man, believed to be Doctor Doom, stands in Stark’s place. Many viewers now interpret these visions as early signs of Doom’s hidden presence and influence throughout the timeline.

The theory continues in Loki Season 2. Fans suggest the Citadel at the End of Time is Doom’s recreated castle beyond space and time. The hooded statues that appear inside the citadel are now thought to represent Doom himself. According to this theory, Doom once ruled the Citadel before He Who Remains defeated him. He Who Remains then created the Sacred Timeline to erase Doom’s existence and prevent his return as a multiversal threat.

The theory connects to Infinity War, where Doctor Strange examines possible futures and identifies Doom as a threat greater than Thanos. This interpretation argues that Strange allowed Stark’s death to stop Doom’s rise. The line “I see a suit of armor around the world,” first spoken in Age of Ultron, now defines Doom’s ideology in Avengers: Doomsday, where Robert Downey Jr. portrays a Stark variant who becomes Doctor Doom.

Supporters of the theory believe Marvel may retcon these scenes to establish Doom’s role in Avengers: Doomsday, reframing key Phase 2 moments as part of his larger influence. The retcon centers on Stark’s isolation, which shifts his pursuit of peace into control.

In Doomsday, the line “New mask, same task” suggests Stark continues his mission as Doctor Doom, without moral restraint.
