Donald Trump Says ‘Sometimes You Need a Dictator’ During Speech

Amidst growing tensions and regular criticisms by artists and other politicians, President Donald Trump recently claimed that sometimes people “need a dictator.” This comes right after the tensions peaked between the United States of America and the Kingdom of Denmark over Greenland. Though the issue has de-escalated as of now, there continue to be concerns around the globe.

Donald Trump drops ‘Dictator’ comment after Davos speech

President Donald Trump remains at the center of all the big things happening around global geopolitics at the moment. With criticism regularly raining down on the President, he has claimed that “you need a dictator” sometimes in his speech in Davos.

“We had a good speech, we got great reviews. I can’t believe it, we got good reviews on that speech,” Trump said on Wednesday, January 21, 2026 (via TNR). He referred to the address he gave earlier that day at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

“Usually they say, ‘He’s a horrible dictator-type person,’ I’m a dictator,” the controversial President continued, “But sometimes you need a dictator! But they didn’t say that in this case.… It’s all based on common sense, it’s not conservative or liberal, or anything else.”

George Clooney, a vocal critic of the President, shared the clip of Trump, and wrote, “As I has always said, he is at his most honest when he is at his most malevolent and depraved.” The pair have had several clashes before, with Trump even calling Clooney out after he attained French citizenship.

Meanwhile, the address that Trump gave at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, has been widely criticized online. Many are failing to make sense of the point he was making. Some parts of the speech were also interpreted as racist and anti-immigrant.
