Christian Wallace, co-creator of Paramount+’s Landman, has weighed in on the widespread reaction to Billy Bob Thornton’s intimate scene in the show’s second season. Addressing viewer speculation in The Hollywood Reporter interview, he offered details about how the moment was executed on set.

Wallace clarified that the scene, which sparked online claims of full-frontal nudity, was carefully staged. It did not feature actual nudity from Thornton. He explained that an intimacy coordinator was present during filming and that the scene relied on prosthetics designed by the props department. “To clarify, it wasn’t an actual full frontal,” he said.

According to Wallace, an early prosthetic option was rejected, leading the team to select a more realistic alternative. He said, “The original prosthetic she [intimacy coordinator] brought in made everyone laugh. We were like, ‘No.’ So we went with a more humble alternative.” The creator added, “That was a hilarious day on set. But it is surprising to me that people think that was actually Billy doing full-frontal nudity.”

Wallace credited both the intimacy coordinator and the production crew for creating a scene convincing enough to spark widespread debate. He noted, “They had a whole rig, as Billy called it: ‘Got my rig on.’”

The comments came after the season two finale. It saw Billy Bob Thornton’s Tommy Norris fired from M-Tex Oil by Cami, played by Demi Moore. Following his dismissal, Tommy decides to start his own family-run company and enters into a dangerous partnership with cartel boss Gallino.
