Mickey Rourke Says GoFundMe Was ‘All Scam’

Mickey Rourke claimed that a female employee who previously worked for him allegedly set up the GoFundMe fundraising campaign. He clarified that he had no interest in the money raised and that the entire donation effort was a “scam” orchestrated by the employee.

For those unfamiliar, the GoFundMe campaign asked people to donate money to prevent Rourke from being forced to vacate his Los Angeles home due to overdue rent. It also alleged that Rourke’s financial condition had deteriorated after he moved away from Hollywood.

Mickey Rourke talks about GoFundMe

In a conversation with TMZ, Mickey Rourke opened up about the GoFundMe donations. He said that he wasn’t the one who orchestrated it, but rather someone who worked for him. He said, “It was all a scam. That whole thing about the money was something that somebody who worked for me did to try and keep money for herself.” Clarifying that he would never seek help for money from strangers, he added, “I would never ask strangers or fans for goddamn charity. Like I said, I’d rather stick a gun up my a** and pull the trigger than ask anybody for a dollar.”

Earlier this month, Rourke took to Instagram to share a video to address that matter. He said that he didn’t contact GoFundMe to set up any sort of donation campaign. He believes it is an “embarrassing” act to ask people for money and said that he would never do it. “Whoever did this, I don’t know why they did it, I don’t understand it. I wouldn’t know what a GoFund foundation is in a million years. You know, my life is very simple; I don’t go to outside sources like that. And yeah, it is embarrassing, but I’m sure I’ll get over it like anything else,” he explained.

Mickey Rourke also urged people to stop giving money to the campaign. To those who have already given, he urged them to attempt to get it back. Moreover, he also reassured everyone that he’ll get this matter handled legally. While repeatedly clarifying that he would ask for no money for strangers under any circumstance, he also reassured the concerned fans that he has a home to live in and food on his plate.
