Why Harry Lawtey’s Robert Isn’t in Industry Season 4 Explained

Robert Spearing’s absence from Season 4 of Industry has raised questions among fans of the HBO series. Following the character’s exit at the end of Season 3, co-creator Mickey Down has explained why Harry Lawtey does not return in the new season.

Industry co-creator Mickey Down has shared new details about why Harry Lawtey’s character, Robert Spearing, does not return in Season 4.

In an interview with TV Insider, Down said Robert’s exit was linked to the emotional resolution the character reached at the end of Season 3. Unlike many other characters in the series who remain trapped in cycles of ambition and unresolved trauma, Robert was written to move forward. “Very boldly, there is a redemption arc for some of the characters. Characters do change in this show. Robert evolved out of the show because he had somewhat of a redemptive last episode of Season 3,” Down said.

The creator added that the decision reflects the show’s approach to character development. He said, “The show operates in a world where people haven’t quite come to terms with their trauma yet or haven’t been healed of it. And when they do, or they are healed of it, they kind of leave the show.”

The Season 3 finale placed Robert at a crossroads, particularly in his relationship with Yasmin (Marisa Abela). After finally acknowledging their feelings for one another, Yasmin chose to accept Henry’s (Kit Harington) marriage proposal. Soon after, he stepped away from both the banking and the United Kingdom to pursue a new direction.

Lawtey’s departure from Industry also came as his film and television schedule expanded significantly. Recently, the actor has taken on a number of high-profile projects. This includes roles in the 2025 films Mr. Burton and Words of War. He is also set to appear in several productions. These include The Billion Dollar Spy, Longbourn, Brides, and Under Salt Marsh.

Lawtey’s growing slate made a return in Season 4 unlikely. Nevertheless, the show’s creator have emphasized that Robert Spearing’s exit was due to narrative arc.
