George Clooney, who recently appeared in Noah Baumbach’s Jay Kelly, officially gained French citizenship, alongside his wife, Amal Clooney, and their twins. The veteran Hollywood actor and director previously expressed his concerns about raising his kids in the Hollywood culture.
George Clooney and family gain French citizenship
George Clooney, Amal Clooney, and their 8-year-old twins are now officially French citizens (via Fox News). The family was granted citizenship according to a naturalization decree. Before this, the couple had been living in France with their children after uprooting the family to get away from the culture of Hollywood.
The Hail, Caesar! star had previously spoken out about his desire to move away from Hollywood to raise his kids. He opened up about his life in France in an interview with Esquire magazine in October.
“You know, we live on a farm in France. A good portion of my life growing up was on a farm, and as a kid, I hated the whole idea of it. But now, for them, it’s like – they’re not on their iPads, you know? They have dinner with grown-ups and have to take their dishes in. They have a much better life,” Clooney said during the interview.
He added, “I was worried about raising our kids in L.A., in the culture of Hollywood. I felt like they were never going to get a fair shake at.”
The actor further commented on the anonymity that France offers. “France – they kind of don’t give a s*** about fame,” he said, “I don’t want them to be walking around worried about paparazzi. I don’t want them being compared to somebody else’s famous kids.”
So now, George and Amal Clooney will get to raise their kids in France, with little worry about the Hollywood culture.
Clooney’s latest film, Jay Kelly, is now streaming on Netflix.
