Hannibal Creator on if Hugh Dancy’s Will Would Be in Potential Sequel Show

Bryan Fuller has finally addressed a question Hannibal fans have held onto for years: if his long-dreamed The Silence of the Lambs TV show ever becomes a reality, would Hugh Dancy return as Will Graham? The creator recently shed light on rights complications, casting hopes, and why he “can’t imagine” separating Dancy from the world he built over a decade ago.

Fuller confirmed that he is still working to secure the rights to The Silence of the Lambs. He called the process “a little more complicated now.” Though fans continue to hope for a revival, Fuller stressed that nothing can move forward until those legalities are resolved. “They’re getting ironed out. It’s getting ironed out, but it’s not ironed out right now. It’s a wishlist item,” he told The Playlist’s Discourse podcast.

Should his wish become reality, Fuller’s series could reunite the core Hannibal cast, with Mads Mikkelsen returning as Hannibal Lecter and Laurence Fishburne as Jack Crawford. Additionally, Zendaya could take on the role of Clarice. Crucially, Hugh Dancy could also be part of the Silence of the Lambs TV show, despite Will Graham not being in the original novel.

For Fuller, the profound chemistry between Dancy and Mikkelsen is irreplaceable. A recent reunion with both actors only solidified his conviction. He said, “I can’t imagine lifting and separating those two characters and those two actors.” “I met with Hugh and Mads last night… and it was so wonderful to see these two guys together and their brotherhood and fraternity. I was like, we’ve got to get the band back together,” Fuller added.

Integrating Will into Clarice’s story would require a creative reworking of the source material. All in all, it seems Fuller sees his Lecter universe as inherently including both Mikkelsen’s and Dancy’s roles.
