CBS’ Gayle King Addresses Workplace Drama Rumors

Gayle King addressed the CBS drama talk head-on, but she kept her response measured. The “CBS Mornings” anchor acknowledged that rumors are circulating, but she stated that she will not negotiate her contract on air or online.

The morning show veteran spoke during a pre-taped “Sherri” appearance, where chatter about contracts and lineup changes has been swirling. She also acknowledged conflicting whispers circulating both inside and outside the building. Still, she stressed that she likes her job and is therefore staying focused on the broadcast.

Gayle King reveals she’s ‘not going to negotiate in the press’

The broadcast icon put it plainly. She told Sherri Shepherd, “I’m not going to negotiate in the press.” Then she added, “I hear one thing in the building and one thing outside of the building.” Furthermore, she pushed back on reports she called “not true.” King also acknowledged the elephant in the control room. She said, “I’ve decided I’m going to stay out of the drama — and there is some drama.” Yet she reiterated her stance on the gig. “I like the job and I’m told they liked me”

Context matters, and timing does too. Co-anchor Tony Dokoupil is moving to evenings. Consequently, the morning table will shift. King framed it as expected churn, not a crisis. “Tony’s promotion is certainly going to mean changes at CBS Mornings. There’s no question about that,” she said. “So, we shall see.” She also shared how the noise lands at home. “My kids call me, and they go, ‘Mom, what’s going on?’ And I go, ‘What have you heard?’” Meanwhile, she celebrated Dokoupil’s step up with a wink to TV history, stating, “We played the song, ‘We’re moving on up to the East Side.’ Very happy for Tony.”

Ultimately, Gayle King kept the CBS drama at arm’s length. She restated confidence without teasing the next moves. Additionally, she avoided hypotheticals about future roles. For now, the plan is straightforward. She will keep showing up, keep steering the broadcast, and let the newsroom chips fall where they may.
