Sinners’ River Dance Scene Gets Massive Praise From Christopher Nolan

Christopher Nolan had nothing but praise for a particular scene in Ryan Coogler’s Sinners, comparing it to one of Stanley Kubrick’s classic movies. He called the scene “the most spectacular musical inversion” he has seen in a long time.

The Oppenheimer director recently hosted a special screening event for Sinners’ Oscar consideration for the upcoming 2026 Academy Awards. During his conversation with the movie’s director, Ryan Coogler, he pointed out the scene where the movie’s antagonist, Remmick, and his newly turned vampires perform to an Irish folk song, “Rocky Road to Dublin.”

“It’s really the most spectacular musical inversion since Kubrick’s Singin’ in the Rain,” Nolan said, referring to Stanley Kubrick’s 1971 sci-fi movie, A Clockwork Orange. “I mean, what did we [Irish] ever do to you?” Nolan jokingly added.

Since the movie’s release, fans have widely supported Sinners for Oscar consideration in various categories, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Michael B. Jordan for the Best Actor award. As the award season approaches, the support has only grown stronger. However, the official Academy nominations are scheduled for announcement on Thursday, January 22, 2026.

Sinners was released on April 18, 2025, and was one of the biggest successes of the year. It was written and directed by Ryan Coogler. It featured Michael B. Jordan as the identical Smokestack twins. It also featured Hailee Steinfeld, Miles Caton, Jack O’Connell, Wunmi Mosaku, Jayme Lawson, Omar Miller, and Delroy Lindo.

Set in 1932, the movie followed the twins returning to Mississippi after seven years, hoping to escape their troubled pasts and open a juke joint for the local Black community using stolen money. During their opening night, they let their cousin, Sammie, perform on the stage. However, Sammie’s music unknowingly summons otherworldly forces—an Irish vampire named Remmick and his allies. As the night erupts into chaos, the vampires aim to turn everyone into one of them.
