Marty Supreme’s Gwyneth Paltrow on How It Was Working With Timothée Chalamet

Gwyneth Paltrow has high praise for her co-star Timothée Chalamet’s performance in their upcoming film, Marty Supreme. While she admitted that she wasn’t “familiar” with his previous works, the actress said that her co-star “blew” her away with his work in the film.

Gwyneth Paltrow hails Timothée Chalamet’s ability to play ‘someone unlikeable’ in Marty Supreme

While promoting Marty Supreme, the Iron Man actress appeared alongside Jacob Elordi on Variety’s Actors on Actors show, where the two asked each other questions about their personal and professional lives.

Quite early in their conversation, the Frankenstein actor said that Chalamet is “incredible” and “genuinely unbelievable” in his latest film. Elordi added, “The final frame of him in the hospital is such a committed performance.” He then asked Paltrow, “What is it like working with someone with that kind of intensity as a performer?”

“It was great,” the Oscar-winning actress praised Chalamet. “I wasn’t so familiar with his work either. So, I did a little bit of a deep dive… And in this movie, he absolutely blew me away.”

For comparison, she explained how other actors she worked with handled intense characters. She said, “The bravery around playing somebody with no moral center. A lot of times, actors, when they’re playing someone who’s not likable, you can see them kind of like couching it a bit, you know, like not wanting to.”

Paltrow further praised her co-star, saying, “He’s very committed, you said—that’s really the right word. Like it’s always inspiring to work with anybody who takes it that seriously and who loves it that much. You know, ’cause then I’m like, ‘Oh yeah, I used to really love it like that.’”

The Euphoria actor agreed and said that such passion for the job is “important” and that “it does have value.” He added, “That’s how I feel when I watch his work, he makes me feel good about the state of everything.”

Josh Safdie directs Marty Supreme with a script that he co-wrote with Ronald Bronstein. The movie is loosely based on table tennis player Marty Reisman. It will arrive in theaters on December 25.
