Jacob Elordi says Heath Ledger, being from Australia, inspired him for a career in Hollywood

On a recent episode of Variety’s Actors on Actors, Jacob Elordi sat down with Gwyneth Paltrow for a one-on-one conversation. During their conversation, they answered each other’s questions about their acting journeys and what inspired them to choose the field. When asked by Paltrow about who gave him the idea that a career in Hollywood was possible, Elordi responded, saying, “I was quite loud as a kid, which is every actors’ thing. They didn’t know what to do with me.”

Further, he added, “There was a teacher at school, Mrs. McMahon, who decided to cast me as the cat in ‘The Cat in the Hat’ musical. And I just…” Here, Paltrow interrupted, saying, “You nailed it,” and the Euphoria actor went on to explain, “I was singing and dancing, I had the big hat on, and I knew that that was what I wanted to do.”

Elordi then revealed how Heath Ledger became his inspiration to get into acting. “I saw Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight,” he shared. “And I knew him from Knight’s Tale and all these things that I had grown up watching. And I think that when I was about 12, I realized he was from Australia.” He then continued to explain, “Then the cog started turning that this could be a viable thing for me to do. And it was something that I could do. And from that point it just became an obsession.”
