Matthew Lillard was one of the actors Quentin Tarantino singled out in his recent set of controversial criticisms, following which the Pulp Fiction director received a lot of backlash. The Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 actor opened up about the director’s words and claimed that it hurt his feelings.
What did Matthew Lillard say about Quentin Tarantino’s criticism?
Quentin Tarantino recently appeared on The Bret Easton Ellis podcast, where he heavily criticized several actors, including Paul Dano, Owen Wilson, and Matthew Lillard. The criticisms, especially the comments about Paul Dano on There Will Be Blood, drew severe online backlash.
Now, Lillard became the first performer to address the comments by Tarantino while speaking at GalaxyCon in Columbus, Ohio. His reaction to Tarantino’s comments drew a positive response from audiences. “Quentin Tarantino this week said he didn’t like me as an actor,” the Scream actor said, “Eh, whatever. Who gives a s***.”
“Listen, the point is that hurts your feelings. It f***in’ sucks,” Lilard said about Tarantino’s criticisms, “And you wouldn’t say that to Tom Cruise. You wouldn’t say that to somebody who’s a top-line actor in Hollywood.”
Lillard continued, “I’m very popular in this room. I’m not very popular in Hollywood. Two totally different microcosms, right? And so, you know, it’s humbling, and it hurts.”
The reaction from Lillard comes after Quentin Tarantino incited a global backlash for his harsh comments, which most deemed unfair and inaccurate. “[Dano] is weak sauce, man. He is the weak sister. Austin Butler would have been wonderful in that role. He’s just such a weak, weak, uninteresting guy. The weakest f***ing actor in SAG [laughs],” he said about the Little Miss Sunshine actor. This was alongside other comments about Owen Wilson and Matthew Lillard.
Discussions continue regarding Tarantino’s comments on online platforms, including X (formerly known as Twitter) and Reddit.
