The fifth edition of Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea Film Festival sparkled to life Thursday, unveiling Rowan Athale’s “Giant”. The Sylvester Stallone production stars Amir El Masry as boxing legend “Prince” Naseem Hamed, with Pierce Brosnan by his side as a trainer.
The event was a star-studded affair with Hollywood A-listers Dakota Johnson, Uma Thurman, and Ana de Armas in attendance. Sean Baker is the jury head. Riz Ahmed, Naomie Harris, and Nadine Labaki are jury members. Furthermore, Olga Kurylenko, Queen Latifah, and Nina Dobrev also graced the glitzy red carpet.
However, the red carpet’s crowning moment was when Vin Diesel gently wheeled legendary actor Michael Caine into the spotlight. The “The Last Witch Hunter” co-stars’ reunion was one to remember, with Diesel presenting Caine with a lifetime achievement award.
“Tonight is more special for me personally because I’ve been asked to recognize someone who you all know as one of the best actors who’s ever lived. He’s been somebody that, as Uma Thurman said, could play character roles or main roles, and all the while has more charisma in his finger than most people in Hollywood”, Diesel said while bestowing Caine with the award.
In his cheeky response to Diesel’s speech, Caine joked, “I’m here to get an award, which doesn’t surprise me. I won two Oscars”. The Interstellar actor continued, “And one of the luckiest things is tonight. I’m just so happy to be here. I’ve seen it on television but never won anything here, so I’m happy. I want to thank you for the surprise, because in show business you don’t get many surprises, you get a couple of shocks, and that’s about it.”
Michael Caine, 92, joined the honoree lineup of Sigourney Weaver, Juliette Binoche, Rachid Bouchareb, and Stanley Tong. The Red Sea Film Festival is taking place in Jeddah between Dec. 4-13, and promises to be a sizzling week with Hollywood’s finest joining the star-studded mix.
